Across the Universe

Amanda msged me one day and said I should watch this movie. Nvr actually heard of this show before but since she recommended I decided to watch it.  Its turns out to be a musical that is inspired by the music of one of the greatess bands ever – THE BEATLES.

Anyway the story tells of a young brit from Liverpool called Jude who travels to the US to find his father. There begins the journey of Jude (Jim Sturgess) who finds love in the form of Lucy (Evan Rachel Wood). With the music of The Beatles and the Vietnam War as the backdrop, the story really is able to potray the people of the 60′s when it was all about anti-war protest, the struggle for free speech and civil rights, mind exploration and rock and roll.

I love this show and the characters are so interesting and the music works… Anyway if you are a fan of musicals and The Beatles, you should watch this.

Spiderwick Chronicles

Spiderwick Chronicles is a story of goblins, fairies and magic but think again if you think that its like any normal fairy tale because this story is actually dark.

The story begins with Jared Grace (Freddie Highmore) who moves into an old house with his family, including his twin brother Simon (also Highmore) and sister Mallory (Sarah Bolger), that they’ve inherited from their great uncle Arthur Spiderwick. Jared discover a field guide to a magical world written by his great uncle, and soon begin to notice faeries throughout the estate. There is a problem though, Mulgarath, a shape-shifting ogre, wants the field guide so that he can rule over all faerie-kind (and possibly humans as well) and so starts attacking the children in an attempt to obtain it.

I like this movie. It was nice. The movie is based on a best-selling novel by Holly Black and Tony DiTerlizzi but it does not completely follow the storyline. True fans of the novel might feel cheated by this but it is still a good movie which I recommend to everyone.

CJ7 – Cheung Gong 7 Hou

Went to watch CJ7 the other day. It is Stephen Chow’s latest project which is features state of the art special effects. This story actually moves away slightly from Mr Chow’s usual slapstick movies although there are still a lot of funny segments.

Instead of focusing on Stephen who plays a poor labourer, Ti, the focus is more on his son, Dicky (played by a girl, Jiao Xu, yes you read correct – a girl). The story begins with Ti finding a toy which he gives to his son. Unknown to him, the toy he found turns out to be an alien pet and with this strange new pet, the story starts to develop. A story that teaches them an important lesson of the true nature of family and the things money can’t buy.

Its a nice movie and worth watching. The highlight of the movie is actually Dicky who is very believable. She should be commended as this is actually her first movie and I think given the chance she can go far.

Jumper

Jumper tells the story of David (Hayden Christensen) who at a young age discovered that he had the ability to teleport to different locations at will.  He basically used the abilities that he has to travel around the world living a consequence-free life.

One day a man called Roland (Samuel L Jackson) appears in his life and David realises that Roland is a Paladin, a member of an organisation dedicated to the eradication of all Jumpers. Roland has been tracking David for years after investigating several mysterious bank robberies David had accomplished.

The show also stars Jamie Bell who plays Griffin another Jumper and Rachel Bilson who plays Millie, David’s love interest when he was younger.

The basic plot of the movie is Roland’s quest to destroy David and the ordeal David goes to in order not to be killed.

The story is nice albeit Hayden’s acting is a bit stiff. It is worth watching if you have nothing else to do.

In The Name Of The King

Went to watch In The Name of the King last night with some frens. Initially thought it would be interesting like eragon or First Knight but hell no… it was BAD…… normally I don’t criticize  movies but this time i have to. Acting was alrite but all the actors had accents, weird accents. Also the story line was weird. I dun really recall reading dungeon siege but i’m sure it did not do justice to the book which is a classic.
